Challenging the Next Era of Hepatology

61st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Hepatology
President, Masayuki Kurosaki, M.D., Ph.D.,
Director, Musashino Red Cross Hospital

It is my great pleasure and honor to host the 61st Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Hepatology in Tokyo from June 5 (Thursday) to June 6 (Friday), 2025. The meeting will be held at the New Otani Hotel. All members of our medical staff are working together to prepare for the meeting in the hope that many members and guests will attend.

As a special lecture, we have invited Professor Nobuhiro Nishiyama from Tokyo Institute of Technology to give a lecture on "Creation of Cancer Diagnostic and Therapeutic Systems Based on Polymer Nanotechnology". We have also invited Prof. Valerie Chew from Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore to give a lecture on "Targeting tumor immune microenvironment for biomarker and therapeutic discovery in hepatocellular carcinoma". Joint sessions with other societies are also planned, including a joint session with EASL.

The Japan Society of Hepatology has overcome many challenges by conducting basic and clinical research and deepening discussions to elucidate the pathogenesis of liver disease, leading to the development of treatments, and consequently changing our clinical practice. As a result of these efforts, the structure of liver diseases is changing significantly, and the trends of hot topics of interest in clinical practice or research continue to change with the times. In other words, the challenges related to liver diseases are changing but still accumulating. Under this background, we have chosen "Challenging the Next Era of Hepatology" as the theme of this conference, hoping that hepatology will be continuously revitalized and developed. I would like to express my hope that the future leaders of the Society will boldly take on new challenges through this meeting.

Tokyo is a vibrant city with many international visitors and new facilities being built all the time, so we hope you will enjoy your time between conferences. We look forward to your active participation in the meeting.
