On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the jointly held IDF-WPR Congress 2023, the 15th AASD Scientific Meeting, and the 10th annual meeting of JADEC in Kyoto, Japan, July 21-23, 2023.
The global epidemic of diabetes is a most serious medical and social problem in all parts of the world. Indeed, the Western Pacific Region has the highest prevalence of diabetes, the most heterogeneous pathophysiology of the disease, and the most diverse ethnicities and cultures. To remain informed on these confounding medical features of our vast constituency, it is vitally important to meet with each other to exchange ideas in dialog. The COVID-19 pandemic grievously wasted this precious opportunity to meet for discussion; as you know well, we have not been able to hold an IDF-WPR Congress since 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. It is so gratifying to have this joint congress again in Kyoto, so that all of us who are deeply involved in diabetes research and care in the Western Pacific Region can meet in person. This Congress will be devoted to discussions in three main areas, research, both clinical and basic, and diabetes education and care, which all are crucial for medical professionals involved in diabetes as well as for patients of our region.
Kyoto provides a beautiful location to have fruitful scientific discussions. The IDF-WPR Congress and the AASD Scientific Meeting will offer much to learn and will provide many fine memories. Kyoto is a city of notable historical sites and fine food and prizes an academic atmosphere of many colleges and universities. We welcome you to this joint meeting in Kyoto, the heart of western Japan.
Sincerely yours,
