Orthodontic Treatment during Pubertal Growth (Maxillary Expansion and Protraction, SBG, etc.)
Orthodontic Treatment after Pubertal Growth (Non-surgical and Surgical Approaches Aiming Esthetic and Functional Rehabilitation)
We would like to discuss the current status and desired future developments of comprehensive cleft lip and palate treatment across various global regions.
We would like to discuss the author’s approach to primary and secondary surgery for the lip and nose, with a special focus on achieving optimal esthetics.
This session is to present the latest advancements in biomaterials and regenerative medicine techniques for the treatment of cleft lip and palate, and to explore future directions in treatment approaches.
This session will discuss innovative approaches in primary surgery for cleft palate to prevent postoperative velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI) and effective surgical management strategies for secondary treatment of postoperative VPI.
The care for cleft palate speech disorders is a long-term commitment, and given the limited availability of specialized hospitals and speech therapists, collaboration with community speech therapists and families is essential. This symposium aims to explore the challenges and solutions for ensuring seamless and collaborative care for patients with cleft palate who have speech disorders. The focus will be on enhancing collaboration among specialized speech therapists, community speech therapists, and families. By sharing clinical experiences and research-based outcomes, we aim to collectively identify effective strategies and support progress in this area.
In the assessment of speech difficulties associated with cleft palate, the primary focus has traditionally been on articulation and nasopharyngeal closure function. However, speech evaluations by speech therapists may not always align with patient satisfaction. This discrepancy suggests that other factors also influence the level of satisfaction felt by individuals. Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), it can be inferred that even when the same physical impairment (such as speech impairment) is present, its impact on activities and participation may vary among individuals. The aim of this symposium is to discuss ways to comprehensively assess the communication status of people with cleft palate, including patient-reported outcomes.
Cleft lip and palate treatment and care are carried out in various countries. However, due to differences in medical systems, medical equipment/materials, medical technology, etc., each country has developed its own methods and approaches. In this symposium, we would like to share the efforts at cleft lip and palate treatment and care, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and consider medical collaboration and support.
Patients with craniofacial abnormalities may present with upper airway obstruction due to abnormalities in their anatomical structure. In addition, morphological changes due to surgical treatment may also cause obstruction. In this symposium, we plan to discuss the various problems of upper airway obstruction in patients with craniofacial abnormalities, including their causes, prognosis, and treatment methods.
Sharing information on the current status of caries and oral health, as well as management systems for children with cleft lip and palate in different countries
Research on the causes and prevention of cleft lip, palate, and craniofacial congenital disorders has advanced from various perspectives. In addition to traditional analyses using genetically modified animal models, recent technological advancements, such as the introduction of next-generation sequencing, have enabled comprehensive exploration of human genetic variations, leading to significant new insights. In light of these developments, we are organizing a symposium focused on cleft lip, palate, and craniofacial congenital disorders.
The symposium aims to share the latest research findings and prevention strategies in these fields while fostering discussions that will enhance and deepen our understanding. We are currently seeking symposium speakers to present their research. We invite those involved in basic medical science to participate, share their findings, and contribute to the advancement of research through active discussions.
