Akihiro Sudo, M.D., Ph.D.
Congress President
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery,

The 36th Annual Research Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association will be held at Mie Prefecture Sun Arena on October 14 and 15, 2021. For the first time in 16 years, since when Atsumasa Uchida hosted it as the 20th congress president. It is a great honor to organize this long-established annual meeting and deeply grateful to all of concerned parties and members of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association.

The theme of this Annual Meeting is “Mina Ayashi.” As you may know, this phrase was left by Motoori Norinaga. A doctor and national scholar born in Matsusaka City, next to Ise City where this meeting will be held. The literal translation is “everything is mysterious”, however it suggests that you should always question of why with interest, instead of looking various events in the world with prejudice or common sense. Therefore there’s something that could be understood to basic research, decided to make it as the theme.

The Annual Research Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association started in 1973 as study group and developed by the efforts of various seniors. In Japan, the orthopaedic surgeon has conducted research from the physician’s point of view and bring back the results to clinical practice or develops into future clinical application. However, the surroundings of locomotive disorder has drastically changed from super-aging society to be solved. We are looking forward to seeing young physicians who will be responsible for the next generation. Recently, due to the basic research are subdivided and specialized, we are witnessing the clinical settings itself may be left behind. It is important that the research should always focused on clinically and we would like to aim that reminds us the essential of clinical research using basic methods.

Ise City is the gateway to Ise-Shima National Park with abundant nature and delicious foods, and has many famous places and historic sites rich in history and culture. Also there’s Ise Jingu Shrine long been called as “Oise-san” or “the hometown of the Japanese mind”, represents the tourist spot of Mie Prefecture. We hope you will enjoy the conference with the taste of Ise, as Ise lobster, Matoya oyster, Anori pufferfish, Abalone, Ise tea, Ise pickled radish, Ise udon, Tekone sushi, Akafuku mochi, and Henba mochi.

We are looking forward to seeing as many participants as possible there.
