Ladies and Gentlemen
Dear colleagues,
Dear guests,

Bilateral meetings of surgeons from Japan and Poland have a long-standing tradition. Contacts over the years have contributed to fruitful cooperation, establishing numerous scientific contacts, and very cordial friendships. A measurable result are also the numerous training internships that Polish surgeons completed in many renowned centers in Japan, mainly in the field of surgery and combined treatment of esophageal and stomach cancer. I am glad that we had the opportunity to draw on the experience of outstanding Japanese surgeons. Then the formula of mutual contacts was extended to three of our countries - Japan, Hungary and Poland. So I'm glad that we can meet together for the fifth time.

This is my great honor to welcome all guests to the fifth Triangle Symposium of the Japan-Hungary-Poland Surgical Society who decided to participate in our Symposium in Nagoya, Japan. It is a great pleasure for me personally and for all surgeons from Poland that we can meet together again and host such outstanding experts from our countries in various surgical specialties.

I hope that the prepared scientific program will meet expectations of all participants, and the Symposium itself will be an opportunity to learn about the latest achievements in the field of modern surgery, for fruitful deliberations and substantive discussions, establishing professional contacts and friendships between young surgeons from our countries.

Let me also to express my thanks to the organizes from Japan – Professor Masashi Yoshida, Secretary Norihito Wada and Ms Kyoko Okuda without whose significant participation and efforts the organization of this Symposium would not be possible.

I can philosophically say that "time does not stand still." Just like prof. Jozsef Sandor I have retired from 2023 and asked Professor Wojciech Kielan to take over as Co-President of the Polish section of the Japan-Hungary-Poland Surgical Society. I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet many times in the future in our countries again.

Taking into account many years of our personal friendship, I would also like to express my wish that the 5-th Symposium would be dedicated to the memory of prof. Masaki Kitajima who passed away in 2019. He was the initiator, co-founder of our Society and a great advocate of cooperation between surgeons from Poland, Hungary and Japan.

Sincerely Yours
Professor Grzegorz Wallner
