The 70th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy
President : Yoshitaka Isaka
(Department of Nephrology, Graduate School of Medicine,
Osaka University)

The 70th annual meeting of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy (JSDT) will take place from Friday, June 27 to Sunday, June 29, 2025, at the Osaka International Convention Center. This academic conference will bring together a wide range of healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry representatives from both Japan and abroad who are involved in dialysis therapy. The event provides a platform for passionate discussions and the exchange of ideas. It also serves as a venue for acquiring the latest information and knowledge in the field of dialysis medicine. We will conduct a survey among JSDT members to gather feedback and strive to organize an academic meeting that aligns with their needs. All educational lectures will be available on demand to enable as many members as possible to view them. Additionally, we plan to introduce AI-powered simultaneous interpretation to enable members to listen to lectures by renowned international speakers. I am honored to be appointed as the chair of such an important academic conference, and I am keenly aware of the responsibility that this role entails.

According to the JSDT Renal Data Registry report, the total number of dialysis patients decreased by 2,226 from the previous year to 347,474 at the end of 2022, despite an overall increase. The average age of dialysis patients is 69.87 years, an increase of 0.2 years from the previous year, and the aging population continues to grow. Several issues need to be addressed in dialysis therapy in an aging society. These include shared decision-making in selecting renal replacement therapy and conservative kidney management, as well as managing dialysis regimens and complications in elderly patients.

The World Expo will be held in Osaka in 2025. In alignment with the Osaka Expo’s theme, this academic conference and general meeting’s theme is “Dialysis Care for a Future Society Where Lives Shine.” Dialysis is one of the most revolutionary treatments for improving the prognosis of patients with kidney disease. In this survey, the longest dialysis history was over 52 years. However, when considering the future of dialysis, it is important to overcome complications in dialysis patients, improve their quality of life, and provide better dialysis care. Our goal is to make this academic conference a forum to discuss achieving the well-being of dialysis patients in an aging society.

We are honored that the JSDT’s annual conference will be held in Osaka, the host city of the World Expo. We hope you will visit Osaka, participate in the 70th annual JSDT meeting, and enjoy the World Expo. We look forward to engaging in lively discussions in Osaka in 2025. Thank you for your continued support.
